Climatefirst foundation was founded around the time of the failed Copenhagen talks in late 2009. As friends and geographers, founders Adrian and Werner were frustrated with the political process and wanted to put their eco-consciousness into action and create something that would have lasting and tangible benefits for the environment.

Our vision is to make every retail transaction an oportunity to help the environment.
Whether a business or individual we aim to make it simple to understand the connection between everyday consumption and the impacts on climate change. With understanding people can make informed decisions about their behaviour, selecting products and services that have a smaller impact on the environment.
We believe in individual responsibility for action on climate change - given that many people are busy and don't have a lot of time to help the environment, we wanted to make climate action as simple and accessible as possible. We have focused on point-of-sale systems as this is where we can reach the most people, this is when people are already thinking about consumption and are making decisions on the products they buy. We aim to inform individuals about the environmental costs of their actions and through this understanding people will feel part of a broader movement, that their actions are important.
STRATEGY – make it easy
The principle is 'offset as you go' – a simple, fast, transparent and ethical way that empowers consumers to help reduce the risk of dangerous climate change by investing in carbon abatement initiatives. Our technology estimates the environmental cost of transactions and reports this to consumers at retail outlets. We make it easy for individuals to use micro-donations to balance the environmental costs of everyday activities.

IMPACT – a sustainable future
It's up to individuals to make personal decisions about their behaviour; we help by providing information and a practical way to make a positive action. Working in retail outlets we can reach a wide audience, creating awareness and encouraging a conversation every time a purchase is made. Paying only a small amount (such as $2.75 when offsetting a tank of petrol) might not seem like it can have any effect, but as little as $1 can plant tree in Australia. Our Point‐of-Sale (PoS) solution can efficiently collect micro‐donations across a range of markets – when these microdonations are added together we can create amazing outcomes for the environment.
We support innovative projects that are verified by international standards that have a range of climatic, ecological and social benefits.We actively fund and monitor programs that prevent deforestation, create clean energy, and help communities.
